Students will be admitted into the gym or auditorium beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Instructions begins promptly at 8:15 a.m.
Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. will be issue a Tardy Pass. Students arriving after 10:00 a.m. are to be counted ABSENT.

BELLS
Remember teachers dismiss students, bells do not. Instruction is to take place until the bell rings.
TWO short rings are for the custodian. Three long rings for a fire drill. Two long bells to return in the building.
DISMISSAL
Thriving Minds Teachers are to escort the students outside of the building and remain supervising until 4:45.
STAFF HOURS
Teacher hours start at 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please be clocked in and ready by 7:30. Daily Schedule for classrooms- see master summer schedule.
ATTENDANCE
Procedure for Signing IN/OUT Biometric Clock- Clock in no later than 7:30 and clock out at 2:30. Staff members will also sign-in on the paper roster in case of biometric clock failure. It is especially important to sign out from the biometric clock and on
paper.
STAFF ABSENCE PROCEDURES
EMPLOYEE ABSENCES – REPORTING ABSENCES/PERSONAL DAYS
Faculty and Support Staff are responsible for getting your own sub from the approved summer school sub list.
(See office manager for list). Teachers need to inform the office manager of absence and the substitute obtained using generated list from office.
You will need to text Mrs. James, assistant principal, in the event you will be absent.

EARLY DEPARTURE
All personnel, having an urgent need to leave early MUST CLEAR their request directly with the principal or assistant
principal. This request must be done by completing a “Request to Leave Early” form that may be obtained from Mrs. Gibson.
This form must be turned in at least twenty-‐four hours before the requested day, emergencies are exceptions. If you are going to need class coverage, please contact the office.
EMERGENCY AND OTHER CONTACT INFORMATION
Teachers and staff are required to maintain accurate contact information with the main office.
Teachers and staff members who change their address, telephone number, or name must notify the school’s office personnel.
They will, in turn, provide a form to fill out and send to personnel office through the school mail.
COMMUNICATIONS INTERNAL:
Each teacher will receive weekly agendas, and e-mails with the time and day of events.
The information should be read thoroughly. Daily announcements will be made by 8:15 a.m.
E-‐mail accounts are to be checked at minimum, once before 8:30 a.m. and before dismissal.
ACCIDENTS STAFF MEMBERS
Any injuries to staff members during the course of the day should be immediately reported to the main office.
You will need to help prepare a report for documentation. This documentation is required in the event it becomes
necessary to file for Workman's compensation.
NATHAN ADAMS RULES:
Teachers are expected to have these posted in the classroom. Students are expected to follow the School-‐wide Rules:
HALLWAY PROCEDURES:
We will practice H.A.L.L. in the hallway at all times.

Students and class groups of students are required to walk on the right side of the hallway.
Students must remain quiet in the hallways and must be supervised at all times.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE:
Teachers are expected to:
Encourage pupils to attend school regularly and to be punctual. Contact the attendance clerk, and the parent when a child is
absent more than two consecutive days. You will be required to show documentation of the interventions for students who are absent. Insist that a child who has been absent bring a note from his/her parents stating the reason for the absence. If the child has been absent several days due to illness, ask for a note from his/her parents and his/her doctor. Absence excuse notes mus be turned in to the Elementary Data Clerk as soon as they are received, please write the student identification number, the
teacher's name and the note the note was received.
Attendance must be submitted online by 9:00 a.m.
Chronic tardies are a great concern and should be marked accordingly on the attendance form. Keep track of the number of
times they are tardy. Children who come in after 8:15 a.m. If a student is tardy, they must go to Ms. Sandoval for a tardy slip.
She will be near the front door to administer tardy slips.
DRESS CODE
Follow the District Policy for summer attire.
MEDICINE (CLINIC)
All student medicine(s) will be kept in the nurse’s office. The school nurse or nurse assistant will handle all health problems within the school. The nurse and/or an administrator are the only persons who may excuse a child from school due to illness. Please use discretion when sending pupils to the nurse. Only the nurse or nurse assistant can dispense medicine for pupils. If any teacher observes students passing anything resembling medicine, she/he should report this immediately to the nurse or office personnel. Always send a nurse’s pass with the child unless you bring him/her.
UNSUPERVISED STUDENTS
Students must not be left in the room or hallway unsupervised. If an emergency arises and the teacher must leave the
room, he/she should ask the teacher nearest his/her room (buddy teacher) to supervise the students or call the main office for assistance. Stepping into the hallway to speak with someone or to take a cell phone call is considered leaving the students
unsupervised. Do not place students outside of the classroom and or portable in the hallway as a disciplinary action. This action will result in a letter of reprimand.
SUBSTITUTE FOLDER
Every classroom must have a substitute folder in a visible designated location that contains grade level appropriate material.
The lessons in the substitute folder should be lessons that do not involve the introduction of any new concepts for the students.The substitute folder must also contain the following:
• Students roster
• Daily schedule
• Special student information (medication, etc.)
• Seating charts
• Restroom Schedule
• List of reliable students
• Emergency Plan and signs
CELL PHONES FOR STAFF & STUDENTS
All cellular phones will be silenced during meetings, faculty meetings, or any local building meeting. Teachers who receive an
emergency phone call will be called to the office. For all other calls, the office will take a message and place a note in the
teacher’s box. In case of exceptions, messages will be delivered to individual classrooms, or via the intercom. Teachers/Staff
please check your mailboxes each morning and again at the end of the day so materials do not stack up in their boxes.
Elementary students are permitted to carry cell phones. If you collect a cell phone from a student, please make sure the phone is turned into the main office by 2:30 p.m.
CAFETERIA RULES AND PROCEDURES
Breakfast will be served from 8:00 a. m. to 8:15 a.m.-‐ in the classrooms
Lunch will be served between 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Teachers must escort their classes into the cafeteria. Classes should not enter the cafeteria early or late.
Students will enter the lunchroom and line up quietly.
Teachers should pick up their students at a designated area at the appropriate time when the lunch period ends.
Classes must exit quickly and quietly.
Teachers need to work with their team and have a weekly rotation schedule for monitoring the lunchroom.
Special note: Teachers must teach all procedures and rules to students daily.
THE CAFETERIA WILL BE KEPT NEAT, CLEAN AND ORDERLY AT ALL TIMES.
CARE OF THE BUILDING
It is the duty of each person in this school to see that proper care is given to our building and furniture.
It is just as much the duty of the teacher in a classroom to see that his/her classroom is kept clean and free from marks, carving,clutter, food etc., as it is the duty of the Principal to check the entire school.
A student who misuses school property should be reported to the Administrator for assessment of fines or other adjustment.
Classroom must be locked when not in use. Please be sure to secure all personal belongings for safe keeping. Each teacher
must be sure that school property is not misused. Please leave your room in an orderly condition.
EXPECTATIONS FOR TEACHERS
The classroom teacher’s duties and expectations are:
1. Keep accurate daily attendance reports and daily scholastic records on all students including progress monitoring trackers.
2. Make daily lesson plans and submit your lesson plans by the end of the work day each Thursday.
3. Post at least 2 grades and assignments weekly.
4.Be responsible for the conduct of his/her class by creating a fair, friendly, and orderly classroom atmosphere and adhering
the Nathan Adams Expectations listed previously.
5. Promote a positive, growth mindset and student culture.
6. Utilize the adopted textbooks and curriculum provided by the Dallas ISD.
7. Be responsible for all school supplies and equipment issued.
8. Attend faculty in-‐service and staff developments scheduled by administrative personnel.
9. Attend campus PD each Wednesday. Professional Developments-‐ Each Wednesday from 2:35-‐3:35 Clock out, then in
again for PD using supplemental code. (PD supplemental pay will be at the rate of $20/hr.)
10. Notify parents if a pupil is not doing satisfactory work.
11. Wear your badge at all times.
12. Fire Drills-‐ there will be 2. Take fire drill folder with you, it will contain a red card, green card and roster. Fire Drill
Dates-‐ June 18 and July 9, sometime after breakfast.
13. Lock down-‐ doors locked, lights off, and utilize “red bucket” if necessary.
14. Teacher Mailbox-‐ check your mail box daily in the main office.
15. Technology-‐bring your District Laptop for summer school to access online textbooks and other instructional needs.

EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS
Students will:
1. Be in attendance and punctual each day of the DISD Summer School calendar.
2. Attend school every day, on time, and ready to learn.
3. Be on task and attentive to instruction.
4. Follow Nathan Adams Expectations.
5. Follow the dress code (shirts must be tucked in).
STUDENT DRESS CODE
Students will wear their homeschool uniforms (no jeans). Student uniforms will also ensure campuses are able to easily
identify their students to better secure the campus.
Nathan Adams students wear white or navy blue button down collared shirts and blue or khaki pants at all times.
CHILD ABUSE
The role of the teacher in reporting cases of child abuse is unique. No other member of our society, except the parent, has the
opportunity to observe a child in daily situations, as does the teacher.
Any deviation from a child’s normal patterns of behavior or changes in physical appearance could be a sign of neglect and/or
abuse in the care of that child. If the teacher suspects the child has been abused, you have the legal responsibility to report to:

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN
Classroom procedures must be clearly planned and well articulated with students.
These procedures include a structured opening routine upon the students’ arrival into the classroom.
Teachers will be asked to submit their classroom procedures and management plan to the principal by the end of the 1st week
of school. Grading Policy Please follow the Grading Policy outlined by the district when assigning grades to students.
Only numerical grades based on a 100 point system are to be used. Grades of 70 - 100 are passing.
Below 70 are failing. There must be at least 2 grades per week for each content area listed in the master schedule.
The majority of the grades should come from classwork and test grades. Zeros shall not be given at any time.
District policy is to assign a grade no lower than 50.
Homework grades are to be recorded only if it will improve a student’s grade average.
Homework may not lower a student’s grade. 14
The school-‐wide grading policy must comply with District Policy. Gradespeed- attendance is to be entered on Gradespeed. Grades need to be entered on gradespeed with a minimum of 2 grades per week per subject.
Homework should be used to reinforce and support mastery of learning and engage parents in the learning process.
Lessons Plans Lesson Objectives (Los) and DOLs will be posted daily. A hard copy of lesson plans should be kept readily
available to any and all monitors. *Lesson plans need to be submitted to main office in the Lesson Plan Binder by Thursday

Students will wear their homeschool uniforms (no jeans). Student uniforms will also ensure campuses are able to easily
identify their students to better secure the campus.
Nathan Adams students wear white or navy blue button down collared shirts and blue or khaki pants at all times.
CHILD ABUSE
The role of the teacher in reporting cases of child abuse is unique. No other member of our society, except the parent, has the
opportunity to observe a child in daily situations, as does the teacher.
Any deviation from a child’s normal patterns of behavior or changes in physical appearance could be a sign of neglect and/or
abuse in the care of that child. If the teacher suspects the child has been abused, you have the legal responsibility to report to:

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN
Classroom procedures must be clearly planned and well articulated with students.
These procedures include a structured opening routine upon the students’ arrival into the classroom.
Teachers will be asked to submit their classroom procedures and management plan to the principal by the end of the 1st week
of school. Grading Policy Please follow the Grading Policy outlined by the district when assigning grades to students.
Only numerical grades based on a 100 point system are to be used. Grades of 70 - 100 are passing.
Below 70 are failing. There must be at least 2 grades per week for each content area listed in the master schedule.
The majority of the grades should come from classwork and test grades. Zeros shall not be given at any time.
District policy is to assign a grade no lower than 50.
Homework grades are to be recorded only if it will improve a student’s grade average.
Homework may not lower a student’s grade. 14
The school-‐wide grading policy must comply with District Policy. Gradespeed- attendance is to be entered on Gradespeed. Grades need to be entered on gradespeed with a minimum of 2 grades per week per subject.
Homework should be used to reinforce and support mastery of learning and engage parents in the learning process.
Lessons Plans Lesson Objectives (Los) and DOLs will be posted daily. A hard copy of lesson plans should be kept readily
available to any and all monitors. *Lesson plans need to be submitted to main office in the Lesson Plan Binder by Thursday
before the following week
